How would the US manufacturing industry change if Honda bought out Harley?

There is speculation of Honda taking over Harley Davidson. The manufacturing industry in the US is already struggling with global competition. How do you think this buyout would affect the manufacturing industry?

Honda wouldn’t manufacture Harleys in America. They’re just eliminating their competition.

The Harley culture sputtered when AMF bought Harley, if Honda bought Harley, it would be the death knell.

No change in the US industry. Harley will be made in the factories existing as long as people want to by old tech motorcycles.

Harley is doing very well why would they sell out to Honda? Honda is a very well run company and the manufacturing industry would do well under Honda. They’re already manufacturing cars in Ohio. Have been for years. But I think that would be the end of Harley Davidson as we know it if Honda bought them out because the die-hard Harley owners would hang on to what they have and would get their parts from the aftermarket until all the old Harley riders died out. And all the metric motorcycle riders who wouldn’t ride Harley’s before would start buying the new Honda Harley’s and the bikes would sell well. The Honda Harley’s would be overhead cam instead of overhead valve. They would be massed produced and begin to look more Japanese with every model year. They would run perfect and you wouldn’t have to do a thing to them but ride. Then the guys who want more would start looking for old Harley Davidson’s so they could ride something different.

I haven’t heard that one. I did read an interview with one of the big wigs at Ducati that said they were talking with Harley about some type of merger. The rep for Ducati said they were very open to the idea but no one from Harley would make a statement at this point. Personally I don’t care who owns who as long as they don’t change the bikes. Variety is what makes motorcycling so cool. I don’t want Harley’s to be like Honda’s or vice versa.
